Baptism
Here at Immanuel we celebrate one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. For most of us, we are baptized into the family of God as infants or very young children but it you have not been previously baptized, we celebrate baptism at any age. If you are interested in celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism at Immanuel, here are a few key things you should know!
Sacrament
For Lutherans, Baptism is one of two recognized Sacraments. Sacraments are defined as promises of God which have a physical sign attached to them by God in Scripture. The promise in Baptism is the gift of faith through which we are saved and the physical sign is the water which washes away our old self and gives life to a new self who has received this gift of faith (Romans 6:4).
Preparation
While it is our policy that anyone earnestly desiring to receive the sacrament of Baptism within the faith community of Immanuel Lutheran Swea City will not be turned away, we do strongly encourage those seeking baptism for themselves (older teens and adults) or their child (infants and young children) take a small pause and reflect on what they are asking in baptism. We require a meeting with the current pastor be set up to review some basic information before a baptism is scheduled.
