At Immanuel Lutheran Swea City, we define marriage as a sacred union between one man and one woman. While marriage is not recognized by the Lutheran church as a sacrament, we do take seriously the promises each partner makes before God to love, honor, and cherish each other until parted by death.
Preparation
While pre-marital counseling is not required of couples, it is strongly encouraged. This is a valuable time to invited a neutral third party to help you set aside the wonderful whirlwind of emotions often experienced when falling in love and have them help you talk through the some of the very real, practical, “boring” parts of building a life together. Pre-marital counseling can be arranged with Pastor or recommendations can be made for a licensed professional counselor.
Scheduling
Weddings must be scheduled with pastor at least 60 days in advance. Please contact the church for available dates as soon as possible in your planning process.
All weddings scheduled at Immanuel Lutheran Swea City are to be Christian weddings in keeping with our statement affirming marriage as being between one man and one woman.
